What is a Debit Card?

A debit card is a plastic card that helps you quickly access the funds in your bank account through an ATM or by making purchases.

A debit card is protected by a pin number that you have to enter when accessing your account through an ATM and sometimes when making a purchase. This number is private and should not be shared with anyone you don’t trust.

Debit cards, unlike credit cards, only let you access the money that you have in your account. You can’t spend more than your account balance. If you try to spend more than you have, some banks will charge you an overdraft fee.
